🎭 How to Choose the Right Survey framework (en)
It can be difficult to decide what’s actually important to ask employees about. Here’s a guide to help you choose a survey framework that fits your needs and provides the best foundation for working proactively with employee well-being.
Purpose of Woba’s Survey Frameworks
A survey framework is not just a list of questions — it's the foundation for your insights, actions, and outcomes.
At Woba, we’ve developed a research-based framework library with over 250 validated questions, making it easy to measure what matters — and act on what makes a difference.

🧭 Woba’s Survey Framework Library
In our Surveys → Design module, you'll find 250+ questions ready for you to use as a starting point or source of inspiration when designing your own survey framework. All questions are carefully qualified and validated.
All questions in Woba’s library are:
Theoretically grounded
Used in published studies
Tested in reputable research projects (NFA)
We do not allow any questions that do not meet our quality standards. This ensures that all measurements made using Woba’s survey frameworks are always valid and reliable.
🧾 Step-by-step - How to get started
🔍Step-by-step: Identify the Survey framework that best fits your context
1. Consider the basics
The first step is to reflect on:
a. What type of survey you need to send out – e.g., Workplace Assessment (APV), Well-being, Leadership Evaluation, etc.
b. Whether you want to use a Woba questionnaire framework or create your own
2. Determine the scope of the survey
Next, it's important to decide how extensive the survey should be:
-
Which areas do we already know are important for us to cover in the survey?
-
What is the “tolerance limit” for our type of employees in terms of how many questions are too many?
-
What can any previous survey experiences tell us?
As a general rule, we always recommend starting with a Woba Grand Prescreening Survey. In other words, we suggest that your first survey be a more comprehensive screening (e.g., Workplace Assessment (APV), Engagement, 360° Well-being), which:
-
Identifies potential causes of stress, low satisfaction, injuries, low engagement, and retention issues
-
Digs deeper than pulse surveys and uncovers more layers of the work environment
-
Lays the foundation for future surveys
When it's time to conduct your next survey – for example, in 3–6 months – you can then carry out a smaller survey (pulse/effect measurement), focusing on the areas from the larger screening where your scores were lower and therefore require proactive attention and follow-up.
3. Choose a Survey as a starting point
Based on the considerations above, you can now select one of the surveys available in Woba to use as the foundation for your final survey. Alternatively, you can begin designing your own questions.
4. Adjust as needed
Remove or add questions or categories as necessary, so the survey fits your context and criteria.
💡 Tips for use
- Choose a framework with a number of questions that matches your organization’s “tolerance limit”
- Use benchmark data to put your results into perspective
- Plan to carry out a smaller pulse/effect survey 3–6 months after the initial, more comprehensive screening
- Reach out to your Customer Success Manager for guidance through the steps above and help designing the right questionnaire for your needs
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Can we create our own questions?
→ Yes, you can either add your own questions to Woba’s existing survey frameworks or choose to design entirely custom frameworks. However, there are certain advantages to using Woba’s templates, including ensured methodological quality, research-based questions, and access to external benchmarks.
How do we choose between Woba’s questionnaire frameworks?
→ Choose based on capacity and relevance – all frameworks cover key workplace environment categories and are grounded in research.
What if we already suspect certain problem areas?
→ Use that assumption to tailor the questionnaire and ensure you're addressing the areas you believe may be challenging. By also including other topics in the survey, we can help identify potential underlying causes. Your Customer Success Manager is happy to assist with a more focused version.
